House Rules -
To start with, World of Darkness (classic) is a Mature game. It requires a level of uncommon maturity (like common sense, eh?) to deal with the subject matter, which more often than not includes the macabre, sexuality, dark humor, illness, stereotypes, bigotry, blasphemy, and/or anything else you can think of. It's a game for adults.
1. You must be at least 18+ years of age to participate in this forum.
Aside from the even darker themes, in this medium, 'smut' is a common practice. Some frown upon it. Some don't. It won't be strictly regulated here, as long as it's being played appropriately. But in order to comply with the terms of the host site:
2. Do not post any pornographic material, such as links to images or video of explicit sexual content. Which would likely also involve copyright and/or privacy concerns. Breaking this rule will result in at least one warning, and of course deleting of posts. Then the Banhammer.
3. All characters are killable, by anyone capable IC. (Subject to Mod oversight.) We're all (supposed to be) adults here, and communication and consent is important for smooth roleplaying, but realistic consequences should be expected for all characters. (e.g. Vampire eats Human.)
Life and Death are an important theme in this setting, and as such you should expect any and all characters played here to be completely susceptible to dying. If a character is put into dangerous situations, there will be appropriate consequences and subsequent events.
For example, let's say I create a Human character. I put my character in a room with a Vampire. Now, right off the bat there are plenty of things that can go wrong. Maybe they're just hungry? It could be a deranged Vampire, or one with a code of ethics far removed from my own character. That Vampire might have powers that can literally boil a person's blood from the inside by just looking at them. My character can die, as long as it makes sense within the scene being played. On the other hand, no one is allowed to just jump into a thread and kill whoever they please with no IC justification at all. And making a serial killer or eldritch abomination type character won't cut it, either.
4. Character Limit:
Seeing as characters are allowed to kill eachother, within reason and Mod approval, there will only be a soft limit of 5 characters at a time for each Player.
5. If for any reason you can't (or don't want to) continue to play a character, it is required that you notify a Mod or post in our "Vacations" thread with whatever reason you see fit within a reasonable time. Characters can be retired as is necessary, but if left without any valid reason whatsoever; we may take over the character as an NPC or otherwise dispose of them. Soft limit: 1 week. Hard Limit: 1 month.
6. Blood Bonds:
1 step lasts 1 month. 2 step lasts 6 months. 3 step lasts 1 year. One drop of blood creates a blood bond. Subsequent steps must be created on a subsequent night.
7. Embrace:
One drop of blood is all that is required to Embrace a new Childe. The Childe is first drained of all human blood in their system, and while still dying, is fed at least a drop (think a tear drop) of the Sire's vitae. Of course, that will be the only blood in their system if that's all they are given and they will Frenzy from thirst upon turning.
8. Derangements do not exactly equate to real life mental illnesses. "Derangement" is just a game term to label deviations from the norm with regards to characters' mental states. Several Derangements listed as examples here are only relevant in this game, usually not being real life things at all. (e.g. Acute Sanguinary Aversion, Blood Sweats, Disassociative Blood-Spending, Disassociative Perceptions Syndrome, Sanguinary Animism, Sanguinary Cryptography, Thaumaturgical Glossolalia.)
8a. Multiple Personality Disorder:
Limited to Vampire characters. In real life, MPD is so rare many doubt it's existence at all, but in our game the Derangement works and can be interesting and fun. Therefore, we allow it as long as it's not every other Malkavian being played. The Derangement is more easily justifiable as a supernatural occurrence. Sometimes in gameplay, with other Derangements such as Sanguinary Animism, MPD can manifest and/or exacerbate.
9. Learning out of Clan Disciplines:
Characters may learn any non-exclusive Clan Disciplines (i.e. Protean, Dementation, Vicissitude are not allowed outside of their respective Clans). The character seeking to learn any Discipline must first find a teacher who is sufficiently skilled (at least 3 points in the Discipline) and willing to teach. This is not an easy thing, and should never be treated as such, as Vampires are inherently untrusting and untrustworthy.
10. Merits and Flaws:
At the moment, we won't be restricting any Merits or Flaws, though we will evaluate them as we encounter them in play and probably nerf and/or limit a few of the more overpowered traits. Taking another Flaw or two or more severe Flaws may be suggested to balance out a character with such Merits.
11. Quality:
Please try to be descriptive in posts. NO "So-and-so watches" single sentence posts. This is a writing board, and while we do this mainly for fun, a certain level of serious participation is expected.
11a. Do not use copyrighted material. "Inspired by" and "ripped off" are occasionally subtle differences, but usually very much not. Be original, please. Don't use canon characters from any White Wolf product for your own character. In the unlikely event of any canon character being used on this board, like Nines or Jeanette from Bloodlines for example, they are reserved/restricted to Mod NPC use.
11b. Word count limit:
A hard limit of 150 words will be imposed on "Regions" subforums, with a soft limit of 250-300 words a post. If you find it difficult to go into too much depth about how your character just stands there and listens to others, than try elaborating on their thought processes and/or internal reactions.
